We’ve all been there. We reach a point in our lives where – for whatever reason – we begin to wonder if we are the best version of ourselves that we can be. Our confidence wavers. We want to have more self-esteem. We get it: it can be tough to know how to be more confident, and even more challenging to execute. But it’s possible, and it really is easy to do it in just five easy steps that will boost your self-esteem, courtesy of the hard-working trainers at Body Machine Fitness – where body and mind come together to make us the best we can be.
1. Make yourself feel (and look) great with a Killer Workout
Self-confidence is fueled by a combination of physical, emotional and social health. It’s hard to feel good about yourself if you hate your physique or constantly have low energy. The formula for fixing that is simple – make time for exercise, eat right and get enough sleep.
There is a physiological aspect, as well. Working out stimulates endorphins, your body’s natural feel good drug that can get you out of a funk by lifting your emotions and creating positive vibes. The more you do it, the better you’ll feel mentally, physically, and emotionally, which will bleed into all areas of your life.
Recommendation: Work out! – We recommend an intense workout, like the HIIT workout which is scientifically proven to boost your hormones. Whether you take our amazing classes at BMF with our superstar motivating instructors, or go some other studio, it’s time to HIIT it hard in 2020!
2. Boost your self-confidence with something that gets you out of your comfort zone.
We all have nagging fears that hold us back. But here’s an idea – change your perspective! Step out of your comfort zone. Rather than relying on your old and comfortable approach, try mixing things up. It only takes a few easy changes to break out of your comfort zone. You’ll feel better, you’ll broaden your horizons, and you’ll make new friends. Sign up for a dance class, or enroll in a public speaking course, or do something physically challenging.
Recommendation: Obstacle Course Racing – Spartan – The global leader in obstacle course racing, Spartan will challenge you to push beyond your limits, testing your courage, strength, and determination. These races pit you against others who are pushing for the same thing. So not only are you getting fit running the obstacle race, you’re forced to socialize with people you may not know. Good thing is, you all have one goal in common: Getting fit and getting out of your comfort zone.
3. Hang out with supportive people
It’s been said that you become an average of the five people you spend the most time with. So an easy way to stay motivated is to surround yourself with the type of people who have the personality, goals and lifestyle you want – in other words, people who will help you stay motivated because they are seeking the same things you are!
Recommendation: Find a like-minded community – Seek out a community of people who will keep you motivated. Gather a few neighbors, school buddies, work buddies, doesn’t matter. The main thing is to come together and support each other because no workout routine will last without someone cheering you on. At BMF, we call our people BMFers, and we’re a strong tight-knit community. Those who join one of our groups feel right at home with a tribe of fellow BMFers as everyone strives to become the best version of ourselves.
4. You wouldn’t put cheap fuel in a Formula 1 race car, would you?
Eat right to feel right and look right. A fitness routine only goes so far, so you will need to complement your new way of life with a new approach to nutrition. Eat right and your body will feel good – it really is that simple. When your body feels good, your mind does too – it really is that simple. You’ll have more energy and you’ll look better. Eat right, feel right.
Recommendation: Map Meals – Map Meals offers responsibly sourced, free of refined sugars, and no ingredients that contain gluten or dairy.
5. Music hath charms to soothe the savage beast (and you, too!)
The number one performance and mood enhancer is music. Music can lead to feelings of pleasure, can change thought processes, spur changes in behavior, and even create a psychological effect that can be seen by physical changes in hormone levels. A recent study revealed that participants who listened to music they deemed “pleasing” had higher levels of serotonin, known as the “feel-good” hormone, according to the National Center for Health Research. Researchers have long known that music has the power to lift and motivate. So… find music you like, listen to it, and use your newfound good mood to accomplish those personal goals that are most important to you!
Recommendation: It’s easy to create your own playlist (if you are going to use it for workouts, the preferred tempo is 125-140 bpm). Decide what kind of music you want for which activities, and the rest is easy!
